Suqian features convenient transportation. Ever since ancient times, it has been famous for “facing Shandong to the north, joining the Yangtze River and Huaihe River on the south, being the central route between the Yellow River and Yangtze River, and controlling the entrance to Beijing and Nanjing”. The Grand Canal runs through the city from south to north. Beijing-Shanghai Expressway, Nanjing-Suqian-Xuzhou Expressway, Xuzhou-Suqian-Huai’an-Yancheng Expressway and Suqian-Xinyi Expressway have been successfully built and opened to traffic.  Xinchang Railway and National Highway 205 have passed through the city. Construction of Suqian-Huai’an Railway and Provincial Highway 344 is given impetus to. The City Proper is 60 kilometers away from Xuzhou Guanyin International Airport in the west, 100 kilometers away from Lianyungang Baitabu Airport in the north and 130 kilometers away from Huai’an Lianshui Airport in the east, giving adequate expression to its advantages in air and sea transportation.
