According to statistics of the Sixth National Census, based on the standard time of 0:00 on November 1, 2010, population of permanent residents in the city has totaled 4.7156 million, an average annual increase of 0.89% compared with the statistics of the Fifth National Census in 2000. Currently, registered population of the city has reached 5.6 million. Among permanent residents, population between 0 to 14 years old, between 15 to 64 years old and over 65 years old respectively accounts for 18.97%, 70.81% and 10.22% of the total. (Compared with the Fifth National Census, proportion of population between 0 to 14 years old to the total has reduced by 7.25% while that of population over 65 years old has increased by 2.76%.) Population receiving junior college education or above occupies 3.9%; population receiving senior middle school and technical secondary school education occupies 10.9%; population receiving junior middle school education occupies 42.7% and population receiving primary school education occupies 26.8%. Illiteracy rate roughly approaches 6.01%, decreasing by 5.1% compared with the Fifth National Census in 2000. Urban dwellers account for 48.27% of the whole population and those in rural areas 51.73%. Population of Han Nationality accounts for 99.8% and that of other minority groups 0.2%.
